SMO materials are high-performance super austenitic stainless steels, most commonly SMO 254 (UNS S31254), developed for severe corrosive environments. With very high chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content, SMO alloys provide exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, especially in chloride-rich and seawater applications.
These materials are widely used in oil & gas, chemical processing, desalination plants, marine systems, heat exchangers, and offshore structures where conventional stainless steels fail. SMO materials also offer high mechanical strength, excellent weldability, and long service life, making them a cost-effective choice for demanding industrial applications.
